Saint Rose of Lima

Today we celebrate the Feast of the South American Saint, Rose of Lima. She was born in Peru and was given the name Isabel Flores de Olivia. She had such a "beautiful face" that people called her Rose. So she took this name at her confirmation.
Rose was devoted to prayer and penance from a very early age. A long line of suitors wanted to marry her for her beauty but her heart belonged to the "Son of God". 
She became a Third Order Dominican at the age of 20 and died at the age of 31. Saint Rose is a great inspiration for all Third Order members to pursue the path of holiness. 
Saint Rose is the patron saint of all South Americans and she is also the patron saint of those who are mocked at for their piety.
